How weapon levels work
- Each weapon has its own level, separate from your player rank. Your rank unlocks new weapons, perks and killstreaks; a weapon's level unlocks that gun's attachments.
- Levelling a weapon also earns its Military camos, the first step on the road to Gold, Platinum and Divergence.
The fastest ways to earn weapon XP
- Stick to one gun. Weapon XP goes to the gun you're using, so swapping to a maxed weapon mid-match wastes it.
- Play objective modes like Hardpoint, Domination and Kill Confirmed. Playing the objective earns XP on top of your kills, and the matches run longer than Team Deathmatch.
- Pick small maps, where fights come fast: less running, more kills a minute.
- Activate a Double Weapon XP token on the gun you're levelling. A Double XP token levels your player rank instead, but the two stack, so run both together. Tokens only count down while you're in a match, so menus and matchmaking don't waste them.
- Save your tokens for live Double XP events, so everything stacks at once.
- Make the gun easy to use first: a clear optic and recoil control win more fights, and more kills means more XP.
Bot lobbies: the quickest kills
Every kill earns weapon XP, so the more kills you get in a match, the faster the gun levels. In an MW4 bot lobby you farm kills against AFK players, which is why players use them to level weapons and grind camos.
